Mini Forge - Standard Cards
Much like it’s big brother The Forge, the Mini Forge streamlines the drying process and to protect the card during the drying process.
Contains:
Custom 3D printed vented bin with magnets, also contains reusable desiccant
Temperature Humidity Meters Digital Gauge
3D printed lid that is vented and contains magnets
2 pieces of EVA mat to provide protective cushion
Orange indicating silica desiccant beads (orange to green)
Reusable plastic bag
The Mini Forge was designed from the card up. It is a well-thought-out solution for drying cards efficiently and safely. Here’s a summary of its features and benefits:
Controlled Environment: Designed from the ground up to create a controlled
setting for optimal drying of cards.
Speed: Drastically reduces the drying time from days to a much shorter period.
Capacity: Can accommodate standard size cards and smaller. This includes cards similar to the 1953 Topps era cards.
Convenience: Eliminates the worry of monitoring the drying process, allowing
users to dry multiple cards safely and efficiently.
Suggestions for Drying Your Card
1. Place the card between the two EVA mats.
2. Place the EVA mats on top of the bin containing the desiccant.
3. Install the top lid to close the Mini Forge.
4. Place the entire Mini Forge inside the reusable bag and seal the bag.
5. Monitor the humidity gauge. You’ll see the humidity inside the bag rise and then gradually lower as moisture is removed from the card.
Knowing When the Card Is Dry
Through testing, I’ve found that when a card is completely dry, the humidity gauge will typically read approximately 18% RH.
However, every style and type of card is different. The final humidity reading may vary depending on the card’s stock, thickness, coating, age, and other characteristics.
When you determine that a particular type of card has reached the desired result, record the final humidity reading and keep notes.
Over time, these notes can help you establish reliable reference points for different types of cards.
Tip: Don’t rely on 18% as an absolute target for every card. Use the humidity gauge along with your results and your notes to determine what works best for each card type.
This innovative approach seems to enhance the card care process significantly. If you
have any further details or questions about The Mini Forge feel free to ask!
Note:
If the card is left overnight, it will dry completely and may warp slightly. This is due to a 2mm gap that allows the card to warp without causing any damage. To restore it, lightly spray two card pads with Kurt's Card Spray and place the card between them. Then, sandwich the pads between two acrylic plates and let them sit for about an hour. After that, check the card; it should be flat and dry.
Disclaimer:
There’s no single method for using these products, as each card is unique and responds differently during cleaning. I can offer only a general guide on how to use them. As you develop your skills, you'll discover various ways and techniques to clean and preserve your cards. But the goal will always remain the same!
Blacksmithing Definition of a Forge:
The Forge is fueled by strong flames to heat metal and other materials. A blacksmith places metal into the forge to make it more malleable and shapeable later on the anvil. Forges can come in several varieties, including coal, gas, wood-burning, and charcoal.
